Péter Pázmány, Archbishop of Esztergom established a university in Nagyszombat in 1635, during the most tragic years of the country's history, the era of the Ottoman rule. He was convinced that intellectual cultivation was key to the nation's virtue and survival. Our University takes its name from Péter Pázmány embracing the legacy of the institution he once founded.
The Faculty of Humanities was established in 1992 by the Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference. Due to the increasing number of academic programmes in social sciences, our Faculty was renamed Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2012.
Pázmány Péter Catholic University delivers a blend of human-centric, high-quality education rooted in both classical knowledge and innovation.
Our values are fundamentally defined by our Catholic heritage. Respect for one another, building and maintaining a tight-knit community that thrives and academic achievement are equally important to us.
We make great efforts to provide a nurturing environment for learning, in which the abilities, skills, and needs of students are carefully considered. We firmly believe that the enduring prestige of our diplomas and the positive reception of our graduates in the job market reflect the strength of our core values.
